In keeping with our commitment to respond to our members' recommendations, I will undertake to write an abbreviated summary following each business meeting suitable to be read to chorus members. Notice of this column will be sent to every chorus in our Association via their Directory listed "chorus contact", with the suggestion that the highlights be read, in whole or part at a chorus rehearsal. A more complete explanation of the items in the "Highlights" summary can be found in the Minutes on our secure site. Please respond and let me know if you find this to be a helpful initiative. Express your opinion in the comments section. New Executive Elected:Joe Love (Ontario District) left office after completing his two-year term. Elected for 2001 - 2003 were Norm Goodling (Michigan District) as President, First VP - Tom Rayner (Ontario), Second VP - George Pecor (Wisconsin Upper Michigan), Third VP - Joel McLay (Upper MidWest), Treasurer - Norb Lehmann (Upper MidWest). Continuing as Executive Secretary is William Bates.Promotional Items:Available in future will be AMCA items for sale at the Lansing Sing bearing our new logo. Suggestions for consideration are welcome.Student Choruses:AMCA now has two student chorus members - the Statesmen of the University of Wisconsin and most recently, Vision of the Detroit High School for the Performing Arts.Lake Erie District:This district has dissolved due to the withdrawal of three of the four member choruses. The George Stone Singers continue as AMCA members having accepted the New York Penn District's invitation to join with them.Upcoming District Sings:Ontario, October 19/02 hosted by Kawartha MCUpper MidWest, April 26&27/02 hosted by Eau Claire MC Wisconsin/Upper Michigan, May 4/02 hosted by Nicolet MC Lansing Sing, April 24, 25 & 26, 2002Plans are progressing. Guest performers/clinitians booked are "Cantus" and "Three Men and a Tenor". They will perform on the Friday evening. The International Board will inspect the Sing site at our next meeting to take place in Lansing, Michigan on June 7th and 8th. Choruses planning to attend may book their rooms on the web site beginning January 1, 2002.Music News from the Reviewer and Contest ChairHal Leonard will publish a "Book of Songs" with the content recommended by our Reviewer & approved by the Board (see Minutes for song list).First prize in this year's contest goes to Willard S. Fast's selection "Song of Thanksgiving". It will be available as soon as a publisher has been arranged. Theme for 2002 submissions will be "folk-style music". New Officer:Robert Woodland (Ontario) has been appointed as AMCA's new Historian.Scholarship Chair:This elected position is open and individuals interested should contact the Executive Secretary for information. Tom Rayner has agreed to continue in this position for one year to allow time for a replacement to come forward.Surveys:Forty per cent of our member choruses responded to the "Blueprint for Progress" survey. Committees have been formed to follow through on the suggestions and contact the many volunteers. It is hopeful that more volunteers will come forward to represent the remaining sixty per cent yet to respond. You may still send your name, address and phone number along with the area that you would be please to volunteer for. Does your chorus have a "Chorister Reporter"?
