Being slowed down by my medical situation, I've had a lot of time to dissect the proposed new bylaws plus the interest in the future of the AMCA.
I see the new bylaws as a renewal of our commitment to continue to stick together but with that every member needs to buy into the premise that they are the organization and that it is not a hypothetical situation dreamed up by a few individuals.
As a group, if each one would step forward to do a little bit of the work that needs to be done to be an effective organization they would find the importance of what the AMCA had been and that it is a viable tool to encourage adult and pre-adult male singing. The benefits far outweigh the problems or negatives that constantly occur because of human nature. You only need revisit the columns shared by Bill Bates, our former executive secretary and others and you can see how these positives work when put into action.
I'm thankful that Ric, John, both Don C & P, Doug, Ed, Paul and Dave Thomas have helped prepare us for today's finalization of the new bylaws.
In keeping with that thought, I want to revisit some other conclusions that I've come too and that there has to be changes in us all from the same old, same old to a common embracing of a new forward direction. This means that the use of electronic mail must become an important part of our dealings with each other to help communication goals and quicker response to get us more informed more quickly. There should be "what I call a communication specialist" in each chorus, hopefully the governor to accept this responsibility to aid in helping us all know each other better. There should also be a Historian in each Chorus and District plus someone to take International responsibility to build the story of "Fellowship, Community Service and Good Singing." A library of music in all choruses should be created to assure music is available for larger Sings, as well as a borrowing trust for our various choruses because of the lack of strong publications for adult male choruses from present publishers.
This is just to give us a new beginning which I hope will get creative juices in all of us to develop strong singing programs at all levels from a single chorus to the International.
I will continue to lead if that is the choice of this board.
Your brother in Song,
George
