Big Sing - Sat. Oct. 26th, St. Mary's PA.

The Glee Club will be participating in our District Big-Sing on Saturday, October 26th at St. Mary's, Pennsylvania. This is our chance to get together with the other 6 choruses in our NY-PA district and perform a joint concert. We will be singing several selections as a mass chorus and two selections as solo selections for our Glee Club. Gary Few has chosen the songs: Dry Bones and Ride the Chariot, for our solo numbers. The day begins on Saturday with a welcome Registration at the St. Mary's school at noon. A joint rehearsal will be held at that time for our mass numbers. The concert will be held at about 7 p.m. and tickets will be available at the event. An afterglow will follow in Ridgeway, PA. A block of rooms is being reserved for our club at the Royal Inn in Ridgeway. Please call soon and place your reservation and tell the motel that you are with the Lock City Glee Club. If you are attending by yourself we would like to try and help you make a connection with some other guys to car pool or share a room. The motel phone is 814-773-3153. The web site is http://www.ncentral.com/~deramy/royal.html. They list travel directions here as well as links to area attractions for the ladies.

Christmas Schedule

Our Christmas schedule will include concert-visits to area nursing homes. The first three Mondays in December will be set aside for these concerts. The third Monday, December 16, we'll sing at a nursing home and then return to the Christ Church for our annual Christmas Party. Ask your wives or guests to join us that evening. Our uniform for the three nights will be black slacks, socks, and shoes and our white glee club polo shirts. If you are lacking a polo shirt, be sure and let us know soon, so we can provide you with one.

Date Set For Our Spring Show - May 3, 2003

The date for our spring show is now set-in-stone and will be Saturday evening, May 3rd. The concert will be held at the Lockport High School. We will also host the Dixieland group The Barroom Buzzards. We anticipate we will do a few numbers jointly with the Buzzards as well as our own group of selections.

The board decided to raise our ticket prices this year. This is the first increase in many, many years. The cost of a presale ticket will now be $9 and tickets at the door will sell for $10. A portion of the ticket proceeds benefits the Dale Association. Last year we were able to make a donation of $300 from our spring concert to the Dale Association.

We are looking forward to another great afterglow. We will try and book the IOOB Hall again this year. Last year, the food service seemed to go very smoothly.

FINANCIAL RESULTS FOR 2001-2002

At our summer board meeting we reviewed the finances for last year. It was noted that we ended the season with a nice profit and we had our best showing in recent memory for attendance at our spring show and for income derived from ticket sales and from our program booklet. If you desire a more detailed report, feel free to speak with Doug or Kenney.

International Big-Sing, Lansing, Michigan - April 26, 2003

The International Big-Sing will be held the weekend of April 26, 2003 in Lansing, Michigan. A contingent of our members will be attending to sing in the district chorus as well as with the mass chorus. If you've never sung with a group of over 1,000 men, you should definitely plan to attend. Actually, you should plan to attend regardless of your prior experience. This is a great opportunity to take part in an event that you will always remember. Ric Addenbrooke will be working out the details for accommodations and will need to know soon if you can attend. We can try and work out some car-pooling as well as room sharing if needed.

Successful Open House Held On Monday, September 16th

It was a real pleasure to hold our fall open house and to see so many guests in attendance. Many thanks to Martin Hickey who took care of the advertising in the Lockport Union Sun and on the WLVL radio.

Our guests that evening included Mike Rider, Matt Pynn, Joe Kissel, Bob Pohl and George McKinney. It was also nice to have Erik Hansen, Jack Ernisse, and Bob Pauley return to our group after a few years away. Welcome back Erik, Jack and Bob! Who knows, perhaps Jack Ernisse will even encourage Don Napier to make the trip in from Rochester with him.

Just a word of explanation for our newest members, the Glee Club uniform for our formal concerts is a black tuxedo. We have made arrangements with Tuxedo Junction at the Eastern Hills Mall to provide these for our members at cost of $100. This cost includes all of the items you would need to match our current uniform of black tux, plain collar white pleated tux shirt with black studs, and burgundy bow tie and cummerbund. We suggest you ask our treasurer for a glee club check for the $100 which will cover the cost and will allow you to purchase the uniform without tax. After you do this, we would like you to repay the club as soon as practical for your situation. We realize that some new members may not be able to cover this expense all at one time and we would be happy to accept smaller payments, over time, until the cost is met. Please do not let this cost deter you from participation in the Glee Club. We would rather work out a payment plan than to lose a new member!

GRANTS

The Glee Club has applied for a Niagara County Grant to assist us with funding for our sound system. If we are successful in this grant it would be our 4th year of funding from Niagara County.

We will also be applying for the Council of the Arts Grant. This will be our first application in many years. Paul Brauer and Doug Farley have attended a workshop meeting for the grant.

DISTRICT MEETING

The district meeting will be Saturday, October 19 at the Holiday Inn at Jamestown at noon. If you would like to attend this luncheon meeting, let Ric. Addenbrooke know. Interested volunteers are always welcome!

LOST AND HOPEFULLY FOUND

Attention all glee club wives. Bob and Gwen Lockie have someone's pie server that was left behind at the picnic. Unfortunately, you might have theirs, too. Yours was nice, but they really want theirs back for sentimental reasons. If you brought a pie to the picnic, would you check to see if you returned home with the Lockie's sterling silver pie server.

Not to dampen the Christmas Spirit
but just a reminder about our annual DUES

The annual dues for the club need to be collected from our members. The amount is $25 and you can make out a check to the glee club or give cash to our treasurer. Please take care of this obligation as soon as you can. The money from the dues is used to cover our international dues as well as our district assessment, with a small remainder to assist our club.

EMAIL ADDRESSES

Would you please take a minute to make sure we have your email address. It will make it a lot easier to get last minute information to you, if we do. Please jot it down and give it to Doug Farley or Ric Addenbrooke.
