AMCA 2010 Executive Council Meeting
Report to Upper Midwest District

Printable PDF Copy

The meeting was called to order by AMCA Executive Council Chairman Ron Stenzel at 5:30 pm on March 26, 2010 at Cragun's Resort in East Gull Lake, MN.

Minutes of the previous meeting were not available.

Treasurer's Report
The Treasurer's Report was approved as presented. Disbursements since the previous meeting were approximately $7000 and revenues were approximately $8592. Current assets including savings and checking are $19,333.05 as of March 26, 2010.

Scholarships
The number of AMCA scholarships to be awarded for the 2010-2011 school year was discussed. $3259.80 is available to be dispersed. The Council decided that 3 scholarships would be awarded this year, $1200 to the Lester Axdahl winner and $1000 each to the next two higher rated applicants.

Upper Midwest District
The Upper Midwest District reported that 11 choruses have a current membership of 322 singers, 23 Associate Members and 68 Student Members from UWEC. All directors and accompanists remain the same as 2009 with the exception that SineWave has discontinued operation. David Nelson and Norbert Lehmann, UMW district Secretary and Treasurer, are commencing the second year of a two year term of office. President and Vice President are due to be elected on May 27, 2010 for 2 year and 1 year terms, respectively.

Wisconsin Upper Michigan District
The Wisconsin Upper Michigan District reported that the same 5 choruses continue to be active, with slight increases in membership at Nicolet and Negaunee. Marquette is unlikely to rejoin the district during the tenure of their current director. Their Big Sing in 2011 will likely be held at Munising. This year Rhinelander is hosting on the same weekend as the UMW Big Sing in Staples, MN.

Open AMCA Positions
David Thomas, the AMCA Webmaster, has submitted his resignation. He has indicated that he will support the transition to a new webmaster. The current web fees are paid through May 23, 2010. Replacements will be solicited from both districts. A letter will be written to Dave reluctantly accepting his resignation and thanking him for his many years of service.
Given that there has been no published Chorister in the past year, it is assumed that the current editor has resigned. Publishing of AMCA news will be included in the duties of the replacement AMCA webmaster.

Multi-District Big Sing 2013
Eau Claire will host a Multi-District Big Sing in 2013 that will include both UMW and WUM districts.

New Choruses
Recruiting of new choruses: The Apollo Male Chorus of Minneapolis, after participating in UMW District Big Sing 2009, has decided that they are not in a position to join AMCA at this time. No response has been received from the Legionaires in Sioux Falls after their initial overtures about participating in Big Sing 2009. Other candidate chorus suggestions are welcome.

TTBB Arrangements
No suggestions have been received from the membership regarding songs to be arranged for TTBB. Bob Torborg of the Cold Spring Maennerchor has produced several new arrangements. Bob has requested no funding support from AMCA for the production or publishing of these new arrangements.

AMCA Dues
The proposed budget expenditures for fiscal 2010-2011 were adjusted to reflect expectations for the coming year. As a result, regular member dues will be reduced from $10 to $7 per member per year. Associate, Affiliate and Student memberships will continue at the previous rates.

Elections
Election of officers for the two year fiscal period commencing 9/1/2010 was held with the following results. Bill Rowe of the WUM was elected AMCA Council Chairman and Paul Carlton of the UMW was elected Vice Chairman. Jim Egan, AMCA Executive Director, is willing to relinquish his duties to someone with more time. He is not resigning, but both districts will be notified that the position is available to a qualified candidate. It is an appointed position. Norb Lehmann continues as AMCA Treasurer, also an appointed position.

Next Meeting
The next meeting will be held in conjunction with the WUM 2011 Big Sing. It will be in Munising, MI, at a date to be determined, most likely in mid-May of 2011.

Respectfully submitted,
Paul Carlton
Upper Midwest District Representative
