| The title for this article is not my original idea, it came from a news report of what some of the locals were thinking about the storm - the spelling is mine. |
OCTimberA "lake-effect" snow hit Thursday, October 13th, as was forecast but heavier than predicted. It took little time to begin large accumulation on trees still filled with large amounts of foliage, that beautiful color we love so much. The problem, of course, was that these leaves are mostly fallen by first snows. The overload to branches quickly became more than trees could take, with the inevitable shattering of branches of all sizes. Power and phone and cable lines all became victims of the masses of falling branches. On this day twelve of the clean-up effort some homes still remain without power. Amherst and other "northtowns" were hardest hit by this event. The Amherst chorus was to rehearse on Thursday evening but was canceled just prior to the meeting time. With school closings across Buffalo area, they could not return to rehearsal at the normal location and scurried looking for a place to hold rehearsal so not to miss two weeks in a row (which they found). I feel it would behoove anyone interested in extending the men of Amherst some good wishes from friends around the Association to click on , send a note of encouragement, and ask others in your chorus to do likewise. It would only take a moment of your time and it spreads our fellowship so much to do so.Best regards, Ric Addenbrooke NOTE: Yes, Lockport (Lock City) was hit by the same storm, but to a lesser degree. Some outages lasted a few days there but were much less in numbers. Thanks for your concern. ![]() |
